An exhibition of paintings by former South Korean ‘comfort women’ started Wednesday in Tokyo, with 24 pictures showing their pains under the Japanese military's wartime sex slavery. In addition to the paintings, 11 portrait photos of the women are displayed at the Women's Active Museum on War and Peace in Shinjuku Ward, which opened on August 1 as Japan's first resource center on sex slavery. The paintings were displayed in 10 other cities, including Kanazawa, Kyoto and Fukuoka. The Tokyo exhibition, which runs until December 4, is the last leg of a nationwide tour. So far a total of some 3,200 visitors have viewed the works.
